About Me
I’m Kymmie Scott, a photographer based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the light is dramatic, the landscapes are enormous, and there is almost always something interesting happening if you’re paying attention.
I’ve felt connected to wild places for as long as I can remember. I’m happiest somewhere outside - usually hiking, exploring, and stopping nearly every time I see a beetle, an unusual track, or something else everyone else has already walked past. Photography gives me a reason to look even closer.
New Mexico is an extraordinary place to do that. I love its depth of color and culture, its mountains and deserts, its weathered buildings and wide-open spaces, and the way something remarkable can appear in an otherwise ordinary moment. That sense of discovery shapes the way I experience the world and the way I photograph.
When I’m not behind the camera, I work in emergency management - a career that has taken me into communities and landscapes across the country and has taught me so much about paying attention to people, place, and what’s happening just outside the obvious frame.
I’m rarely exploring alone. My frequent trail companion is my grandpuppy Phil, a lovable chaos monster with absolutely no respect for artistic composition, personal space, or my dignity. He has nevertheless become one of my most photographed subjects and occasionally allows me to believe I’m in charge.
For me, photography is an extension of curiosity. There is always something worth noticing, something worth exploring, and another story waiting to be discovered.
